This course is designed to provide caretakers with an understanding of how to develop a strong connection with a member using the skills of rapport development, trust building, effective communication and advocacy. Participants will also learn how to develop confidence in their role as a caregiver, how to evaluate and assess effective caregiving strategies as well as how to avoid caregiver burnout. This course is presented by Dr. Jennifer Bjerke . Dr. Bjerke is a seasoned mental health professional who has been working in the field of counseling since 1999. She is a licensed professional counselor whose specialties include crisis and trauma, anxiety, depression, grief and loss, adolescent issues and family concerns. Jennifer is also a professor of counseling and an instructional mentor at Liberty University in their master’s program for Counselor Education and Supervision. Her educational background includes an MA in Community Counseling from Eastern Michigan University and a Ph.D. in Counseling Studies from Capella University.

The Child and Babysitting Safety (CABS) program gives teenagers and young adults everything they need to know for safe and successful babysitting. From getting started with a business, to working with parents and children, to key safety, caregiving and first aid tips, this course makes learning fun! CPR training is also included in this bundle. Upon completion, students will receive a CABS card and a CPR and First Aid card through nationally accredited American Health and Safety Institute (ASHI) which is good for two years. This course is geared for ages 10-18.
